Coming: V2.0 Launch – A new way of thinking and learning about governance

Board Smart will soon be launching a new way of thinking and learning about the governance of public retirement systems. Board Smart V2.0 will provide trustees and executives with an integrated way of understanding and practically applying leading governance practices. The goal is to help trustees and executives quickly develop a common understanding of good governance and their respective roles and responsibilities.

The Board Smart system will be offline while we upgrade our site. The upgrade will begin on Tuesday, May 31st at 3:00 pm ET. The system will be back up and running by close of business on Friday, June 3rd. During this time, subscribers will not be able to login and view Talks. When you login to the Board Smart system after June 3rd, you will find a new, streamlined look and feel.

Board Smart can now be customized to your system and individualized to each learner’s needs. All existing and future Talks will be organized according to our proprietary Enterprise Governance Framework. We have also simplified the navigation and created a place to house links to your governing legislation and any of your existing system specific training materials.

The framework begins with the enabling legislation for your system, the purpose and vital retirement functions to be performed, the duties of fiduciaries, and the five powers that are reserved exclusively for the board to fulfill those duties. Each of the Talks are based on lessons learned and leading practices from our consulting work with public retirement systems.

There will be a simple, graphic interactive interface. After you login, just click on the framework element to find the related Talks. Click here for the new organization of the curriculum. Existing continuing education credits will be automatically carried over.

If you have any difficulty logging into the system after June 3rd, please contact Rachel Tillman, and she will help you troubleshoot any issues. Please also let us know if you would like to participate in a special orientation to Board Smart 2.0. Thank you for your patience while we continue to find ways to help improve the effectiveness of your board and your Board Smart experience!
